1925, SAVA is born and car financing comes to Italy

1925: it’s the year of the Fiat 509. The option of buying on credit appears among purchasing options for the first time in Italy. Providing the financing is SAVA (Società Anonima Vendita Automobili), a captive company founded by Fiat in April of the same year, to guarantee a direct presence in the Italian market through its own financing.

December 2006, a historic joint venture

28 December: Fiat Auto S.p.A. and Crédit Agricole S.A. create a joint venture with the aim of implementing FGA’s financial activities across Europe. With the specific support of a European leader in consumer credit, the group can optimise its commercial effectiveness and enhance the localisation of its various targets – the dealership network, private clients and businesses – with integrated management of the three business lines. Following the joint venture, the group is destined to become a reference model, in which the synergy of specific competences means that they reciprocally complete one another, through various transactions between the end of 2006 and spring of 2007.
28 December (closing date)
  • The repurchase by Fiat Auto S.p.A. of a 51% holding in Fidis Retail Italia.
  • The merger in Fidis Retail Italia S.p.A. of the fully controlled FiatSava S.p.A.;
  • The inclusion of Fidis Retail Italia S.p.A. in the special list ex art 107 of legislative decree 385/1993 TU.
  • The change in business name from Fidis Retail Italia S.p.A. to Fiat Auto Financial Services S.p.A.
  • The subscription by Fiat Auto S.p.A of the capital increase needed to provide the Joint Venture with financial resources required by current regulations regarding the supervision of the assets of financial intermediaries.
  • The entry of Sofinco S.A. (Crédit Agricole Group) in the shareholding structure with a 50% holding.

March-April 2007, the change continues

1 March: Fiat Group Automobiles S.p.A. (new business name of Fiat Auto S.p.A.) reunifies in Fidis Retail Italia S.p.A. all its European holdings in the sales networks and rental financing divisions.

5 April: following the change in business name from Fiat Auto to Fiat Group Automobiles S.p.A., Fiat Auto Financial Services S.p.A. becomes Fiat Group Automobiles Financial Services S.p.A.

July 2008, Jaguar Land Rover puts its trust in Fiat Group Automobiles Financial Services

July :Fiat Group Automobiles Financial Services S.p.A. signs an important collaboration agreement with Jaguar Land Rover in the European car financing area, replacing the previous agreement with Ford. The agreement envisages the management of all activities relating to financing for private clients and dealerships and to long-term car hire in 9 countries (Austria, Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and the UK).

January 2009, it’s time for FGA Capitall

1 January : Fiat Group Automobiles Financial Services changes its name to FGA Capital.

October 2009, Chrysler comes on board as well

October : FGA Capital replaces Daimler Financial Services in the financial services management for all Chrysler brands (Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge), with an agreement that extends progressively, starting in October, to 12 countries (Austria, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Spain and the UK).

20 September 2013, Maserati Financial Services is born

September :The agreement, at a European level, will concern all of Maserati’s financing activities:
  • for the distribution network (Wholesale Funding, floor plan for new, demo and courtesy cars, coverage of the working capital requirement - trade-in and revolving, financing of spare part stocks).
  • Or the end customer (from the classic instalment plan with or without large final instalment, to financial and operational leasing, to the most innovative and flexible solution, such as Personal Contract Purchases and Advanced.
  • For hire fleets.
All solutions dedicated to private clients can be complemented with high-added-value insurance services.

October 2013, renewed partnership with Jaguar Land Rover

October :The partnership between FGA Capital, Jaguar Land Rover is renewed for four years, starting from 1 January 2014, with the option of extending the provision of finance services to support Jaguar Land Rover until the end of 2021 (in 8 european Countries).

November2013, a strategic joint venture is renewed

November: The joint venture between Fiat Group Automobiles, Crédit Agricole e Crédit Agricole Consumer Finance is renewed up to 31 December 2021.


16th January: Foundation of FCA Bank SpA, the new society made byFCA Italy S.p.A. and Crèdit Agricole Consumer Finance S.A. the holding bank ground operating in most European countries and in the south Mediterranean area.

9th July: ERWIN HYMER GROUP and FCA Bank announce the creation of ERWIN HYMER GROUP FINANCE, offering a comprehensive range of services dedicated to the dealer network and customer financing of motorcaravans and caravans of the German multinational group.


July: Moody's assigns an A3 rating to FCA Bank, the highest rating in the Italian banking system.

August: FCA Bank launches its first fully online savings product, Conto Deposito.

October: FCA Bank concludes a joint venture with Ferrari Financial Services S.p.A.
